Art Teacher and Illustrator

Working as an art teacher and a freelance illustrator has been a balance. I discuss the two aspects of my career in an interview with TeMika Grooms, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Design and Illustration Manager.

My work was also featured on the homepage of the SCBWI website. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share my love of teaching and children’s book illustration. I’ve been slowly but steadily building my illustration career while being an art teacher part-time. Both give me great joy!

Here is a little bit about Josh.  Since 2009 I’ve been creating high-quality, fun illustrations for clients all over the world including Highlights for Children magazine, Storytime magazine, Pinterest, and Wieden & Kennedy. My whimsical illustrations can be found in picture books, billboards, iOS apps, album covers, websites, my parents’ fridge, posters, newsletters, animations and more.

Episode 2.10 Alicia Young Art

In this episode 2.10 of My Creative Life, I have Alicia Young a children’s book illustrator, mural artist, and glitter painter. She was kind enough to be interviewed and share her process with me. Here is a little about her below:

Alicia loves being a Jesus follower and Texas girl. She attended art college in beautiful Connecticut, and received her BFA in Painting in 2009 from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. Alicia truly enjoys illustrating Childrens’ books, painting murals, and  recently released her own two devotional books! She thanks the Lord for the gift of art and truly desires to spread joy and to bring God glory through each unique piece she creates!

Episode 12 – Interview with Illustrator, Travis Falligant for My Creative Life

Artist Bio - IBTrav - Travis Falligant, Character IllustratorThis podcast episode will be live on Saturday, June 1st at 2 pm. on My Creative Life. I had an amazing time talking with my college friend, Travis Falligant. I had the pleasure of meeting Travis while attending SCAD. He may have been one of the first people I met from orientation. Travis has been bringing pop culture and movies into his illustration work. He has done work for Fangoria, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox. Just to name a few clients. I could tell when we met at SCAD Travis had a passion for movies & pop culture.

I laughed so much while we talked about our time at SCAD during the 90’s. Now seeing his illustration work it amazes me how he takes popular culture and iconic 90’s movies and puts his own spin on it.
